On Saturday, I went to see the Swedish Lucia Fest in San Francisco (complete with glögg and köttbullar). It was my first time seeing this beautiful festival of lights. Kids and teenagers performed Swedish holiday songs and one particular singer blew me away with his rendition of O Holy Night.
It starts out with the room being dim and then a train of people come in and sing. There is one girl who gets to be Saint Lucia. She wears a wreath of candles on her head to signify the fire that refused to take her life when she was sentenced to burn to death.
